Hyderabad: Telangana state government has drawn up a big action plan for the optimum utilisation of water under Mission Bhagiratha with the support of central and international financial agencies. Telangana State Rural Water Supply Department (RWS) has formulated ‘Waste Water Management Scheme’ under which waste water treatment plants would be established in every mandal headquarters under the Mission. These plants would treat water used by every household connected with safe drinking water taps under the mission.

RWS Engineer –in –Chief B Surendar Reddy told The Hans India that the main objective of waste water treatment plant project is to meet water needs for all purposes in the urban and rural areas connected with the water grid. The recycled water would be stored in separate tanks. Reddy said if water can be made available in the rural areas, then it would help in attracting more industries generating employment in rural areas.

In the drought-affected mandals, Surendar Reddy said the treated water would be released into the water bodies to improve groundwater levels. Nearly 40 per cent out of 584 mandals have been facing acute water crisis due to depletion of groundwater table. In urban areas, recycled water can be used for parks and promote horticulture on the outskirts of municipalities.

Since the project requires huge money, the government is planning to mobilise funds from the Union government and also big domestic and international financial institutions. He said the detailed project report for the scheme was under preparation and the project is expected to be taken up early next year.
