Hyderabad: In order to eliminate dumping of open garbage, open defecation and urination, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would form 1,000 special teams to penalise the violators.

The teams will consist of officials from all departments in the corporation. Besides this, citizens can take the pictures of violators (whoever dumps the garbage on the roadside and other places) and upload them in 'MY GHMC' App to initiate action against them.

In fact, following instructions of Mayor Bonthu Rammohan during the months of August, the corporation officials took up the exercise to impose fines on those who indulge in open urination and garbage dumping but it did not last for more than few days. As a result, about 1,200 new dumping points have emerged across the city.

Speaking to The Hans India, Rammohan said that this time it would be implemented more seriously and each team would have three members from sanitary supervisors to zonal commissioners.

He said that those found to be indulging in open defection and urination or dumping of garbage would be penalised on the spot. He said that the pictures uploaded by the citizens would be directly sent to the Assistant Medical Officer, Health (AMOH) and deputy commissioners.

He said severe action would be initiated against the officials, who fail to respond to citizen grievances within three working days.

The mayor further said that a fine of Rs 500 would be imposed on the violators for the first time and Rs 1,000 for second offence followed by legal action.

He said that the corporation would cancel trade license of shops if the shopkeepers dump garbage on road. He said that the special teams get into action from next week.
