Hyderabad: The Mahila E-Haat, launched as part of efforts directed at financial empowerment of women, is yet to become popular among the 8.8 lakh-strong women Self Help Groups (SHGs) in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to Telangana State Women and Child Welfare Department officials, a team from the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK), a wing under the Union government, had come to Hyderabad and organised an awareness session on Mahila E-Haat, an initiative launched to provide online marketing platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their products and services.

E-Haat is open to all women entrepreneurs from any part of the country to register and sell their products and services.

The SHGs have traditionally relied on DWCRA Bazaars, district, state and national level exhibitions to sell their products and services.

The Mahila E-Haat had been launched to provide the next level initiative, opening up an entire world for them to showcase their products online and generate income, said an official from RMK.

There are about 4.17 lakh SHGs in Telangana. But, due to lack of awareness many of them are not able to offer their products from the State at the Mahila E-Haat.

Similar is the case with Andhra Pradesh, which has about 4.65 lakh SHGs and most of the products produced by the DWCRA groups are yet to be offered at the Mahila E-Haat.

Speaking to The Hans India, official sources from the Andhra Pradesh Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) pointed out that steps had been taken to create awareness among DWCRA group members on the Mahila E-Haat.

At the same time, the State had its own plans to forge tie-ups with multinational e-commerce companies like Amazon, e-Bay and companies like Flipkart from within the country.
