Hyderabad: Telangana JAC Chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Friday demanded that the State government focus its attention on providing employment to the youth.

He recalled that the Centre had to accede to the statehood for Telangana because of movement organised by the youth.

The JAC chairman was speaking at a seminar ‘Students movement December 9 statement’ organised by Telangana Vidyarthi Udyama Vedika (TVUV) here at Press Club Basheerbagh here on Friday.

The JAC Chairman said the student movement had led to the Centre declare statehood for Telangana on December 9.

He said that the first JAC to be formed during the agitation was that of the students. The students were beaten by the police and illegal cases were foisted on them in Osmania University.

“The agitation gained momentum after students like Praveen and Srikanta Chary committed suicide. The lathi-charge by the police on the students made the people come out on the roads and join the agitation,” said Kodandaram.

JAC chairman said that when TRS chief KCR (K Chandrashekar Rao) was arrested on November 28, the students agitated and the movement spread across Telangana.

He urged the state government to make sure that the sacrifices made by the students do not go waste and also wanted it to give due recognition to the students. He asked the students not to stop here and carry forward their fight in future also.
