Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is considering a proposal to emulate the Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation and make it mandatory for the builders to hire the services of only licensed plumbers and masons.

Mobile numbers of licensed plumbers and masons would be uploaded onto the GHMC official website and MY GHMC App, according to officials. Apart from this the GHMC is also planning to include construction and demolition charges in the building permission fee.

The GHMC has found that the staff at the ground level has been committing several irregularities and turning a blind eye to the several construction activities. The officials also said they would train the plumbers and masons prior to issuing the licenses.

A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the civic body would follow in the footsteps of Mumbai Municipal Corporation in providing two weeks training to the masons on mixing the cement with sand in right proportions and other technical aspects by experts.

The official further said the civic body would include collection of debris charges at the time of giving building permission. He said at present the GHMC has been separately charging Rs 360 per ton to collect the waste emanating from construction and demolition.

He said the civic body would soon finalise the per square metre charge for all future constructions. The GHMC would also provide a vehicle to collect debris after the demolition.
