Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to reward with gold or cash city women who contribute towards making the Swachh Bharat Mission a success. The GHMC is planning to introduce a scheme, which would provide gold as a prize to the womenfolk who segregate dry and wet waste at home, refrain from throwing waste at public places and hand it over to the GHMC personnel. Besides, those operating the tippers and rickshaw workers who collect the dry and wet waste separately would be rewarded.

The modalities for implementing the scheme are being worked out. The GHMC is in touch with prominent business houses as well as private, corporate and voluntary organisations for roping in them as sponsors of the Swachh Bharat and Clean Hyderabad programmes. The GHMC has already distributed two bins one each for wet and dry waste to about 21 lakh houses in the city. The authorities have also procured over 2,000 auto tippers that are operating in all circles. A senior official in GHMC said that the waste would be procured in a scientific manner.

The people who perform their duties effectively would be rewarded either by cash or in the form of gold circle-wise. According to GHMC officials, some companies are extending support to GHMC as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. A few organisations have decided to provide help in the form of cash, while others have offered materials.

Officials said that the companies that had come forward to help include- Ramky, which contributed Rs 2 crore; Kamineni Hospital Rs 1 crore; Andhra Bank Rs 25 lakh for setting up tree guards; State Bank of Hyderabad to construct three e-toilets in the first phase; KIMS Hospital to set up two etoilets; HUDCO Rs 1.10 crore financial aid; ITC to set up 100 dry waste centers; Godrej to set up 10 dry waste centers and NTPC to provide five Swachh Auto tippers.
