Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao on Monday turned into a brand ambassador for handloom products by wearing white handloom clothes. The Minister who represents Sircilla constituency which is popular for its handloom weaving sector said on the first working day of the week (Monday), he would wear handloom clothes.

He described this as a move to encourage the common folk to wear traditional handloom. The other staff members were also seen wearing handloom dress. It may be recalled that recently the Minister had urged officials, public representatives and students of all State-run educational institutions to wear handloom clothes at least once a week.

The Minister also urged the public representatives to wear handloom clothes at least once a week so that handloom weavers get sufficient work and the industry could be made profitable. A similar request has been made to the officials of various departments in the State government. “Weavers of Pochampally, Gadwal, Narayanpet and Siricilla were once known across the country for their skill and quality. They are all now in distress.

Let us all bring back glory to their produce and popularise our culture,” the Minister said in his letter to all public representatives. While requesting the common public to buy handloom clothes and encourage the weavers, Rama Rao said TSCO (Telangana State Handloom Cooperative Society) products would be sold online through Amazon, Flipkart and other leading online stores apart from TSCO’s website.
