Telangana villages go digital
While the other States in the country are struggling hard to overcome currency crisis post demonetisation, Telangana Government claims to have achieved a milestone by converting 63 villages into ‘e-cash’ villages spread over seven districts.

Sangareddy district has the highest number with 40 villages being converted into digital cash areas, followed by Nizamabad (13), Siddipet (5), Nalgonda (2) and one each in Adilabad, Jangaon and Bhadadri – Kothagudem.
Officials of the State Finance department said that all the households in 63 villages have been provided bank accounts.
Grocery shops and other vendors are now equipped with POS ( Point Of Sale) PayTM and AEPS ( Aadhar Enabled Payment System) to transact the regular business including selling of milk, vegetables and government payments through digital transactions.
As per the guidelines set by the Union government, villages should meet two parameters to achieve the e- cash status, one being opening bank accounts for all people dwelling in the villages and providing necessary logistic support to vendors to implement cashless transactions.
Besides, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced Siddipet as cashless assembly constituency and implemented digital transactions on pilot basis, government adopted some more villages in six districts where the e-cash system has been enforced in coordination with the banks and other financial institutions involved in the giant task.
The major challenge in the implementation of e- cash system is to convince people towards adopting new method of cashless transactions in their daily lives.
State Finance department, Rural Development and IT departments held Grama Sabhas and enlightened people about the necessity of switching over to digital mode.
Efforts are underway to habituate people to continue digital transactions forever without any hassles.
Officials said another 100 villages are being upgraded as e-cash villages by January end and all habitations in the State would be brought under digital transaction by the end of this year.
