Wanaparthy: For the first time in Telangana, the State government is planning to set up ‘Fisheries Science College’ at Pebbair Mandal in Wanaparthy district. For this the government has already accorded permission on Tuesday.

With the State government giving priority to pisciculture in the district, setting up of a new college exclusively for fishery science will definitely help boost the scientific and technological development of pisciculture in the district.

According to Nagulu, district fisheries officer from Nagarkurnool, the government’s initiative to set up new Fishery Science College is a welcome decision. “Earlier, because of lack of water facilities, the fisheries sector in the State was totally neglected.

However, with the State government giving priority to irrigation projects, almost 90 per cent of tanks in the district of Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy are linked to lift irrigation canals and more than 150 out of 200 tanks are already filled with water, which is a positive sign for rearing fish.
