Hyderabad: A flat, housing the office of an exports company, was completely gutted in a fire accident in an apartment opposite to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital at Humayun Nagar on Monday.

A major disaster was averted when a policeman present nearby as part of Chief Minister’s bandobast jumped into action. Four fire tenders were called in after the fire broke out in Aman Plaza Apartment during the morning hours.

However, prior to this, a constable Bheem Rao, attached to the Humayun Nagar police station, who was on bandobast duty, rushed to the spot before the fire tenders could arrive. He immediately swung into action and attempted to put out the fire with small extinguishers available there.

However, when the flames began to rise he sent the inmates to the ground floor and shifted the gas cylinder from inside the apartment. “I watched the smoke and alerted the residents to vacate their flats immediately,” he said.

Later, fire tenders reached the apartment and put out the fire. People thanked his efforts due to which a major disaster was avoided. No heavy loss was reported as only furniture and flat’s doors and windows were burnt.
