Hyderabad: The much-hyped blue revolution seems to have suffered a setback as the production is expected to fall below expectations. Various factors like drying up of lakes faster than perceived and high-level of seepage is likely to push down the fish production.

The State government, which had provided 27.79 crore fish seed to farmers, had projected that each full-grown fish would weigh one kilogram. But it is now been found that weight of each fish may not be more than 600 grams.

According to official sources, 27.79 crores fish seeds were released into the water bodies in two phases from the beginning of the November.

Even though the reservoirs and big lakes were brimming with water following heavy rains and Mission Kakatiya project at the time when seed was released into the water bodies, the water levels came down faster than expected.

The State government had spent Rs 22.21 crore for providing seed. High production worth Rs 500 crore was expected.
