Hyderabad: Patients visiting Osmania General Hospital are being advised to get done their CT-scan and MRI scan from private diagnostic laboratories shelling down thousands of rupees for the past four days since the scanning machines at the hospital went out of order.

The hospital receives patients not only from neighbouring districts, but also from neighbouring states. Only one out of three scanning machines at Osmania hospital is in working condition. Due to the extreme workload on the working machine, it is developing snags frequently and it went out of order since four days.

On the other hand, the hospital MRI scanning machine has one problem or the other throughout the year. The hospital inpatients as well as the outpatients coming from other places to get a scan done free of cost, are leaving the hospital in despair. They lament that they are being forced to get these tests done spending thousands of rupees at private diagnostic laboratories.

When The Hans India spoke to resident medical officer Dr Rafi, he confirmed the CT-scan machine going out of order since last Saturday. Hence, patients are being referred to Gandhi hospital because there was a precedent of Gandhi hospital referring patients to Osmania Hospital when it has encountered the similar problem.

According to a patient, Santabai, the State government went on record stating that it will strengthen hospitals in twin cities by allocating Rs 490 crore.

What is more important to patients is getting the scanning done free of cost, but nothing like how much portion of funds is allocated to Osmania General Hospital. The patients regard reasons cited by hospital staff on the snags developed by scanning machines as an alibi. Therefore, people have been demanding the State government to pay special attention to fix the issue in Osmania hospital.
