Hyderabad: The sweltering heat which has set in early this year and promises to be a very hot summer has come as a boon for street vendors selling watermelon, mint water, coconut water and buttermilk and sugarcane juice.

A Coconut seller Vivek said “I used to sell around 30 coconuts a day before the summer had set in but now the demand has more than doubled. He said if the temperatures continue to rise, in April and May he would certainly be selling around 150 coconuts a day.

A roadside buttermilk seller, Satamma said “From past one week I have started selling Buttermilk and mint water. As of now she said she was earning about Rs 300 a day, but as the temperatures further rise, the sales would increase manifold.

A customer at the fruit stall, Varun said "I travel almost 30 kms to my work on a two wheeler. With the sudden rise in the temperature, I feel my energy levels are dropping. So, I break during my journey to sip a coconut or some other juice. Normally such a situation arises around mid march but this time summer has set in a bit too early, he said.

According to the Meteorology Department officials the temperature has already touched 38 degrees Celsius and would cross 45 degrees Celsius in the coming three months.
