• With youth overwhelmingly voting in favor of Mr. Narendra Modi in 2014 elections, the Congress and the Left parties are still smarting under the humiliating defeat handed down to them and seem determined to use every dirty trick to distort truth, mislead the nation and woo the younger generation by unleashing a campaign of calumny to defame the NDA government.

• The apparent motive of the Congress and Left Parties is to hijack public discourse and create social unrest and dissensions at a time when the government is straining every sinew to make the economy vibrant and bring it out of the deep morass created by the 10-year scam-tainted UPA rule. While anybody is free to find fault with the government, it is highly deplorable and unbecoming on the part of these parties to try and seek political advantage in the garb of free speech and university autonomy when the country’s unity and integrity are being threatened.

• Stretching the freedom of expression argument too far, the Congress and Left leaders are seeking to justify anti-India slogans although it is well-known fact that no fundamental right is absolute and the Constitution has placed reasonable restrictions in the context of freedom of expression. Are they all such political novices so as to be completely unaware of this self-evident truism or is there a deeper , darker, more sinister agenda at work here?

• The opposition parties are also deliberately obfuscating the truth and indulging in Orwellian doublespeak by creating an impression that the critics of the government are being dubbed as "anti-nationals". Nothing can be farther from truth. Anti-government slogans are understandable but no right-thinking person will tolerate anti-national slogans that seek to balkanise India. Dissent is agreeable, but those wanting to disintegrate the country cannot be tolerated, much less supported.

• While only five or six of more than 740 universities across the country have witnessed some kind of agitation by a handful of students with ideological affiliations to ultra-left and Maoists, the opposition parties are making it appear that unrest is sweeping across all campuses. In fact the boot is on the other leg. It is more than evident that together all of them have fallen flat on their face and their Machiavellian designs to stir up widespread unrest have come a cropper.

• Opponents of the BJP are resorting to the same old hackneyed methods of trying to create social tensions and indulging in vote-bank politics. The Congress and Left parties are mainly responsible for promoting tensions, disaffection and unrest on some of the campuses. This is a well-known fact and is an integral part of their political approaches and strategies. For the Congress, it is politics of convenience--self and the 'first family' above the party or nation. For the Left parties, weakening the system is an inherent part of their inflexible ideology.

• The Communist Parties which have failed to arouse the masses for their causes are now using their frontal organizations in the campuses and elsewhere in the country to create social disturbances. In a rather shocking manner, the Congress is not only rushing to their rescue but is also joining hands with them.

• Unfortunately, disproportionate publicity by a section of the media is also responsible for creating a false impression of unrest among students.

• Irrespective of political affiliations, every Indian should speak in one voice against anti-national activities. But the tragedy is compounded and assumes dangerous proportions when such incidents are used to settle political scores and carry out a vitriolic and sustained propaganda with a clear intent to vilify the ruling dispensation.

• A debate is wrongly formulated over nationalism versus freedom of speech. It is not nationalism but national security that is at stake. Regardless of what political philosophy a party or group subscribes to, national security concerns should be common. To say that Kashmir needs Azaadi, or Bastar needs Azaadi, or glorifying Afzal Guru or Yakub Memon means supporting Balkanization of India. Should this challenge to national security receive approval by political parties?

• It is apparent that the Congress, Communists and their allies are rattled at the existential threat they face after losing the recent elections. Unable to counter the growing popularity of Modi and the BJP, they are targeting the youth as they support Modi.

• Congress and communists lost the plot everywhere. In this frustration communist talking about intolerance is like “devil quoting scripture”. They are killing RSS workers day in and day out in Kerala. The state itself is encouraging these barbarous attacks.

• The president’s address is very apt, timely and all should respect, practice the advice given by the President of India.
