Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy on Wednesday stressed the need for revamping the party and the implementation of Kamaraj plan version-2.

Reddy said, "Some of the senior leaders who have been holding responsibility at the National level for very long, including those who have been in-charge of certain States where we failed and those who have distanced themselves from fears and feelings, thoughts and travails of the masses, must return to their own States and contribute to the party's revamp."

There should be a new look to the party organisation at the National level. It should have new faces, a mix of old and young. He said it was time for members of the CWC and AICC office bearers to submit their resignations so that the Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi can get a free hand in revamping the party.

Reddy said that the successive election results, where the party has been losing after 2014 in some States, has led to a strong urge from the party cadres to bring in massive revamping of the party.

The Congress leader recalled that way back in 1963, Kamaraj Nadar had suggested to the then Prime Minister Nehru that all senior Congress leaders holding Ministerial office should resign and take up party work. This had led to a major shakeup in the party at that time."
