Peddapalli: Owning a piece of farmland was her dream. And from nowhere her ambition appeared seemingly possible when she got an invite to the historical Golkonda Fort where the Telangana government celebrated Independence Day, the first one after the formation of the state in 2014, and was given the land patta by none other than Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao under ‘Dalitulaku Bhupampini’ (Distribution of Land to Dalits) scheme.
After more than twoand- a-half-years, Redapaka Laxmi of Khanampalli village under Dharmaram mandal, who along with 47 others received land titles from the CM, is still waiting her dream fulfilled.
She is not alone; there are 24 others, who got selected under the scheme from Khanampalli village, are also awaiting their slice of pie. The revenue officials identified a hilly area (Survey numbers: 35, 76, 158 and 174) adjacent to village admeasuring 38.37 acres, according to the Dharmaram Mandal Revenue Officer Rammohan.
However, the land is not conducive for agriculture, there was no option left for the authorities as there was no government land available. With the onus is on government to develop the land before giving it to the beneficiaries, the then Karimnagar district administration released Rs 4.62 lakh, while the estimated cost was Rs 7.46 lakh. Thereafter, the administration didn’t release funds.
It may be noted here that currently the village comes under Peddapalli district. Since then the there was no progress and the hilly area more or less remained same even today. The authorities who took land pattas back from the beneficiaries are yet to show them their piece of land.
Speaking to The Hans India, the Redapaka Laxmi said: “It’s been two-and-a-half-year since I received patta from the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, however, the authorities are yet to give me three acres. I ran from pillar to post to realise my dream but in vain.”
The land earmarked for us is not suitable for farming, she lamented, along with Are Narsamma and Lingampalli Rajeshwari, the other two women who received pattas from the CM. Peddapalli District VS Alagu Varshini, who sought the details of the issue, is looking into the matter, it’s learnt.
