Hyderabad: Flagging off new railway projects at Hi-Tech City Railway Station, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu on Saturday said that Telangana is a new born baby and the Centre feels the need to develop it.

Terming the commissioning of various railway lines and flagging off train services as a Ugadi gift to the two Telugu-speaking States, the Minister said that an amount of Rs 1,729 crore has been granted as budgetary outlay for railway projects in Telangana State which is a sizable increase of 187 per cent over the average of previous two years.

For new lines, the budgetary grant is Rs 1,375 crore as against previous allocation of Rs. 312 crore for the year 2016-17, which is 340 per cent more. For doubling and third line works, the budgetary grant is Rs. 449 crore as against Rs. 294 crore during the previous financial year.

The Minister said that Telangana State, the youngest state of the country will be given all cooperation by the Railways for ensuring development. As part of capital investment programme, a new work between Armoor-Adilabad for a length of 220 km at a cost of Rs 2,800 crore has been sanctioned for taking up as a part of joint venture with State government.

Nizamabad-Morthad new railway line was commissioned and DEMU train services between Nizamabad-Karimnagar flagged off. The other works include new survey for doubling of Bolaram-Mudkhed, 4th Line between Kazipet-Balharshah, new line for a length of 115 km between Mancherial-Gadchiroli etc., Suresh Prabhu added.

Responding to the plea of public representatives and passenger associations, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu stated that stoppages will be provided for Bhubaneswar-Mumbai Konark Express and Hyderabad-Pune Express at Lingampally.

Bandaru Dattatreya, Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge) requested the Minister for the construction of Yatri Nivas Kendra for the convenience of passengers at Secunderabad, Kazipet and at another place of choice by State government.
