Kadiyam: 90 engg colleges shut in Telangana
Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that as many as 90 engineering colleges have closed since 2014-15.
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Saturday informed the Legislative Assembly that as many as 90 engineering colleges have closed since 2014-15.
In his written reply to a question raised by TDP MLA R Krishnaiah, the Deputy Chief Minister said as against 305 engineering colleges, affiliated to various universities in the State in 2014-15, there were 215 engineering colleges in 2016-17.
In the year 2014-15, as many as 288 engineering colleges were affiliated with JNTU, 10 with Osmania University, 6 with Kakatiya University and one with Mahatma Gandhi University. However, the JNTU-affiliated engineering colleges got reduced to 199 by 2016-17.
In respect of JNTU - Hyderabad, 35 colleges were given NOCs for closure from 2014-15 onwards. The remaining 54 colleges were not granted affiliation or the colleges did not apply for affiliation from 2014-15 onwards.
In respect of Kakatiya University, one degree college in Warangal was closed in the academic year 2016-17 and in engineering, one college was added in 2015-16 and two colleges in Khammam and Warangal districts were closed in 2016-17.
In respect of Palamuru University, one degree college in Mahbubnagar district and another one in Ranga Reddy district were closed in 2016-17 and one PG College in Mahbubnagar district was closed in 2016-17. In respect of Telangana University, one Degree College and six PG colleges were not granted affiliation in 2016-17.
In respect of Osmania University, one degree college was closed in Ranga Reddy district in 2016-17, the Deputy Chief Minister informed.
