The officials of Agriculture Department were taken to task by the Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday after he found variation in total agriculture land in the State, in the reports prepared by different wings.

During a review meeting through video conferencing held in C-Block, he warned that the officials showing vague figures of serious action. He asked the officials to come up with exact figures by conducting ground level survey of total agricultural land in the State, after speaking to farmers and verifying the documents.

The Minister expressed satisfaction that the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has agreed to extend input subsidy to farmers, who lost their crops in the recent hail-storm. He asked the officials to reach out to farmers to find out the authenticity of their claims and come up with a comprehensive report.

The Minister called upon the officials to enquire into the allegations pertaining to farmers not getting input subsidy. A total of Rs 702 crore were released in two instalments by the government, he informed.

During the review, Srinivas Reddy directed the officials to encourage farmers to insure their crops. He found that for Kharif (2016) only 6.5 lakh acre were covered out of 22 lakh acre, while during Rabi (2016) only 1.5 lakh acre out of 13 lakh acre were covered under Insurance.

The Minister instructed the officials to stay put at their designated station and warned that action would be initiated if the officials are found to be violating the direct orders, during surprise inspections.
