The Telugu New year was celebrated with religious fervor across Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri districts on Wednesday. People across the districts decorated their houses, shops and establishments with mango leaves and flowers and made the Ugadi pachadi.

With people thronging temples on the day, serpentine queues were witnessed at several temples in erstwhile Nalgonda district.

Laxminarasimha Swamy temple of Yadadri, Ramagiri Ramalyam of Nalgonda, Venkateshwara Swamy temple of Suryapet, Laxmi Narasmiha Swamy temple of Mattapalli witnessed huge turnout of devotees. Literary discussions, poetry recitations, felicitations of eminent personalities and cultural programmes marked the day.

Meanwhile, Panchanga Sravanam was organized at all major temples in erstwhile Nalgonda district. In Yadadri, Panchanga Sravanam was conducted by temple chief Siddanthi Satyanarayana Sharma. In Suryapet, Ugadi was celebrated with enthusiasm at the residence of Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy. Local people and leaders of TRS greeted him on this occasion and were served pachadi prepared by the Minister.

Meanwhile under the joint leadership of Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) and TUTF, Ugadi was celebrated at Clock Tower centre of Nalgonda. Speaking on the occasion, JVV leaders explained the medicinal values of pachadi and Indian recipes, and advised the people to say no to aerated drinks. District Joint Collector Satyanarayana Reddy attended the programme as chief guest.
