Hyderabad: M Dana Kishore, Managing Director, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) in a review meeting on Monday said that under Mission Bhagiratha one lakh new drinking water connections would be completed by this summer.
The corporation availed a loan of Rs 1,900 crore from Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to complete one lakh drinking water connections in the surrounding municipalities.
On an average, around 4,000 new connections will be provided everyday providing around 60,000 to 70,000 new connections in April. On an experimental basis and trail run, the Water Board had undertaken the mission mode project in Autonagar and Nadigadda Tanda for immediate results.
With 12 new reservoirs coming up this month and additional 15 the next month, 2 lakh old connections would be replaced as proposed. In order to achieve this, a kiosk equipped with computers, scanners and cash counter would be set up in the locality to receive applications and to verify customer details.
A help desk consisting of the water board staff would be available in this kiosk for immediate assistance and guidance to the consumers. Selected members from the Self Help Group (SHG) and Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) took charge of spreading the awareness through pamphlets and interactions. All the new consumers will be provided with the new connections within 2-3 days after they submit their applications to the kiosks team.
While discussing the charges involved, the MD said that it would be ensured that families under BPL be charged one rupee and regular connection charges would be applied for others. Customers can pay for their new connections with debit or credit cards. As the GM (Projects) and the GM (O&M) are responsible for giving new connections, they are directed to coordinate with all the managers and DGMs on the field.
Every connection would have a separate file and a green brigade official will go from house to house to install new connections.
Among others who attended the inspection include M Satyanarayana, Executive Director, M Yellaswamy, Director(Projects-1), B Sridhar Babu, Director(Rev&Proj-2), Chief General Managers(Engg.), General Managers(Engg.), O&M/Project Wings, HMWSSB.
