Hyderabad: The deadline for the closure of Gough Road in Secunderabad cantonment is just a month away but there are no signs of any development for alternative roads. Local Military Authority will keep the road open for civilian traffic till May 30, 2017.

According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials, the survey on alternate roads was completed but until it acquires the defence land works cannot commence. Speaking to The Hans India, Malkajgiri MP Malla Reddy said, “The Chief Minister had already spoken to the Defence Minister. The State government is keen to allot land either at Vikarabad or Khammam in lieu to the defence land that it acquires for developing alternate roads.”

According to GHMC officials, Rs 200 crore would be required for the development of alternate roads that would include the payment of compensation to private parties for land acquisition.

It may be noted here, that the decision to develop alternate roads was taken almost a year ago but there had been no movement on this front. The State government needs 34 acres to develop new routes.
