After a long wait of two months finally, the State and Central governments have sanctioned Rs 128 crore under Amruth scheme to establish a long-term strategic drinking water system in Mahbubnagar district.  The Mahbubnagar municipally will have to contribute Rs 32 crore towards its share. 

Mahbubnagar: After a long wait of two months finally, the State and Central governments have sanctioned Rs 128 crore under Amruth scheme to establish a long-term strategic drinking water system in Mahbubnagar district. The Mahbubnagar municipally will have to contribute Rs 32 crore towards its share.

According to sources in Mahbubnagar municipality, the Central government has sanctioned RS 80 crore towards share under Amruth scheme and the State government Rs 48 crore. The funds are intended to establish drinking water system to provide potable water round the clock to people.

With the allocation of funds, the district administration has finalised the tender process for the construction of reservoirs, laying pipelines and building overhead tanks under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme.

“The tender process is finalised and the construction works are soon to begin in a month’s time. We are expecting the construction works will be completed by end of this year and very soon drinking water problem in Mahbubnagar municipality will come to an end,” said Devsingh, Naik, Municipal Commissioner.

Under Mission Bhagiratha project, the water will be drawn from main pipeline at Appannapally village and fill the balancing reservoir to be constructed on Ayyappakonda with a capacity of 20 MLD. Similarly, another balancing reservoir will be constructed at Manyam konda to draw a daily water supply of 30 MLD from the main pipeline coming from Bhootpur and both will be linked with filter bed at Ramreddy Gudem. When the works are completed, the Mahbubnagar municipality will get a daily supply of about 50 MLD.
