Hyderabad: The double bedroom project for urban poor has been progressing at a brisk pace in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limits. The civic body had indentified 80 per cent of land and invited tenders for about 36,000 2BHK houses so far.

The civic body has so far identified about 400 acres of land out of the total 600 acres and invited tenders for about 40,000 houses. The corporation invited tenders in three phases. It had called for tenders and finalised tenders for 16,000 houses on February 22 and another 16,000 houses on April 24. On Monday, the corporation finalised 8,000 houses and the remaining 4,000 houses will be finalised by this week.

When asked, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that till now 99 land sites of 404 acres have been handed over to the corporation by the Collectors of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal and Sangareddy. The sites include 55 green field (open land) in Rangareddy, Medchal, Hyderabad and Sangareddy.

The GHMC official further said that the civic body would complete construction of 69,535 double bedroom houses by the current financial year. He said that the remaining about 30,000 houses will be completed by the December 2018.

According to the GO, of the total amount sanctioned, Rs 5,338.96 crore would be the government’s share and Rs 625.81 crore would be borne by the GHMC.

The cost of each unit will be Rs 5.04 lakh in rural areas, Rs 5.30 lakh in the urban districts and Rs 7 lakh in urban GHMC areas. The infrastructure cost in rural areas will be Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 0.75 lakh for nine urban districts and urban areas in GHMC.
