Coaches at the Emerging Cricketers Development Group (ECDG), in continuation of what they have been doing for the past three years, are busy working on the strengths and weaknesses of the trainees, who have reported for their summer coaching camps at Attapur.

In fact, this is apart from the regular camps they conduct all through the year, which also boasts of a good number of budding players. According to the group’s chief coach, and co-founder, Nayeem Khan, there is a rich talent in the Old City, which, unfortunately, is not being tapped to the required levels.

This was one of the reasons why they preferred grounds at Attapur and those closer to Vijayanagar Colony and Red Hills, so that the hopefuls could have access to sound infrastructural facilities in close proximity and get honed by qualified coaches.

Sessions are held both in the morning and evenings, where in coaches will pass on tips on the finer aspects of the entire gamut, including batting, bowling and fielding, besides stressing on the importance of staying fit for their overall well-being.

He points out that inspired by the burst of young talent they have been providing them with competitive exposure courtesy of Shalimar Cricket Club, which reached its peak this season while emerging as the A9 Division One-day league of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

The junior team chief coach, MD Faiyazuddin Ghazi, points out that the title triumph has not come as any surprise to those running ECDG as the boys were always gifted. He singled out Nadeem, Devesh, Aryan, Qursheed, Yousuf, Vinay, Mayank and Shantan, among others, for their consistent showings that helped them conquer the summit.

In their quest to give something back to the society, ECDG provides free coaching to under-privileged children belonging to economically deprived sections. Incidentally, ECDG teams have been performing well in Emerging T20 tournaments that are held annually in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

Nayeem Khan and Ghazi explain that this was just the beginning as they have pinned tremendous hopes on their boys, who, they assert, can only get better as they get to play against their peers more and more.
