Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) officials find fault with Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) officials' callous attitude.

The HMDA officials claimed that Water Board officials, instead of laying a pipeline with Interception and Diversion structure (I and D structure), had laid only pipeline, which has been allowing flow of sewerage water into Hussain Sagar Lake through Kukatpally Nala. In order to prevent the sewer water entering into the lake, HMDA has decided to lay pipeline with I and D structure at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore.

According to sources, the Water Board, in collaboration with the HMDA and under Hussain Sagar Lake Improvement Project (HCIP), initiated the nala diversion project at the cost of Rs 58 crore in four different packages.

But the Water Board had only laid ring pipeline for diversion of sewage water with a flow of 570 million litres per day (MLD). But the pipeline was without I and D structure. Due to this defect, the sewage water continues to flow into the lake; and the purpose of laying the pipeline was not served.

When contacted on the issue, a senior HMDA official told The Hans India that HMDA has decided to lay a pipeline with I and D structure at Necklace Road to stop the flow of sewerage water into Hussain Sagar Lake from Kukatpally Nala.

The official said that HMDA had already invited tenders for the I and D structure pipeline and would be finalised by May end.Official said that the total cost of the pipeline (with I and D structure) project will be Rs 6 crore.
