Hyderabad: The construction work of proposed cable bridge (hanging bridge) across Durgam Cheruvu, which connects Jubilee Hills Road No 36 and Road No 45 will start from second week of June. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which is overseeing the project, has completed the drawing work for the project. The construction cost is estimated at Rs 184 crore.

The project will commence in June and will be completed in 14 months as per the instructions given by the Minister K Taraka Rama Rao. The official said the project received its clearance from Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA &UD) Department in October 2016 and GHMC entered into an agreement with Larsen and Toubro (L&T) in February, 2017. He said that the cost of the project will be shared by GHMC and the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC).

When asked about the project, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the L&T had already prepared the drawings for the project and will execute cable bridge construction work from June second week. He said the proposed alignment takes off from existing junction point near Inorbit mall; diverts to left near parking area of TS Tourism Department and crosses over the Durgam Cheruvu lake and again it deflects to left near walking track of lake and passes along the boundary of hillock and finally deflects right and meets the Road no.45 before the Ambedkar University main entrance.

The bridge over the lake will be 425metres long and the approach road on either side will be around 0.5 km. The bridge will have three lanes on either side. To be built with anchor technology, the bridge was chosen by the engineering officials to avoid environmental violations.

The demand to connect Jubilee Hills to Madhapur by a bridge was a long pending one as most of the IT professionals and cabs use the narrow residential lanes around the Durgam Cheruvu lake. In the peak hours in the mornings and evenings, traffic congestions are witnessed in these lanes.
