Hyderabad: Like in Tamil Nadu, historical temples which come under the purview of the Endowments department would soon get a facelift as the Telangana government has come out with a plan of action to promote “Temple Tourism” in a big way by forming a temple grid.

Now that Yadadri and Vemulawada temples have become the gate way to temple tourism, the government has identified another 20 temples which would be part of the temple grid.

A tourism grid connecting all important temples would be created and necessary tourism infrastructural facilities like construction of cottages, setting up shopping and food courts would be taken up depending on the tourist inflow at each temple in the future.

Basic facilities would be improved in all the identified temples and also gave them new look with new paintings and attractive architectural designs. As a first step, the government has initiated the exercise to constitute temple trust boards for all the recognised temples.

It is mandatory that the board would have to take decisions with regard to the development of the temples at local level before seeking the funds from the government.

The Boards in coordination with the Tourism department would take up tourism promotion in their respective temples. Top officials of the State Endowment department told The Hans India that the government is planning to create a temple grid connecting all famous holy places in the state. Pilgrims and tourists who wish to visit the temples would get the opportunity to have a darshan at one go during their tour in the state. The famous Yadadri Laxminarasimha Swamy temple and Vemulawada Rajarajeswara Swamy temple and 15 others will be form the grid.

Uttareswara Swami temple is in Nelakondapalli in Khammam district, Laxmi Narasimha Swami and Mallikarjuna Swami temples are in Mudigonda, Eswara Markandeya Swami temple is located at Sadasivapet in Sanga Reddy district, Jogulamba temple in Alampur in Mahbubnagar district and Shambulingeswara temple in Mellachervu in Suryapet district are among the important temples that would be included in the temple grid. Special packages would be offered to the tourists who want to visit more than five temples in the temple grid.
