Government will transform Godavari as waterway: Tummala Nageshwara Rao
The Godavari River in Telangana will be converted into a waterway soon, Minister for Roads & Buildings TummalaNageshwara Rao said on Saturday.The minister, who made a visit to Adilabad district along with other ministers JoguRamanna and A Indrakaran Reddy, told the media that the Centre has agreed in principle to transform Godavari river flowing area into Water Way to encourage water transportatio
Hyderabad: The Godavari River in Telangana will be converted into a waterway soon, Minister for Roads & Buildings TummalaNageshwara Rao said on Saturday.The minister, who made a visit to Adilabad district along with other ministers JoguRamanna and A Indrakaran Reddy, told the media that the Centre has agreed in principle to transform Godavari river flowing area into Water Way to encourage water transportation.
This will connect Adilabbad, Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts and boost water transport in a big way, he opined.The minister also said that a big national highway in Telangana would become operational on completion of 334-km stretch connecting Kautala in Adilabad, Kaleshwaram in Karimnagar and Bhadrachalam in Khammam districts.
The length of national highway in previous Adilabaddistrict has been increased to 404-km from 258 km. Four more national highways are sanctioned for the district. Besides giving top priority for roads development, the State government is for encouraging water transportation along the Godavari river.
Rs 2000 crore has been sanctioned for Adilabad district towards roads development. In the wake of Andhra Pradesh completing water way from lower Bhadrachalam to Chennai through Backingham canal, we urged the Centre to give permission for water way in Telangana and the latter agreed in principle, he said.
