Khammam: With the Telangana government looking to decentralise the IT sector through its Rural Technology Centres Policy-2016, cities like Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad, etc have become potential hotspots for the IT industry.

As big cities become increasingly crowded, many in the workforce now prefer to move into smaller, less congested towns. This apart the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives extended by the IT policy for the promotion of rural technology centres are highly alluring. As a result, the IT companies across the spectrum that hitherto highly polarised around Hyderabad are now looking to set up their business in tier-II cities.

Against this backdrop, the proposed IT hub has come like a shot in the arm for Khammam that once touted as the industrial corridor. It may be noted here that Khammam lost its sheen following the creation of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district that took away a host of industries such as State-owned mining baron Singareni Collieries, ITC Bhadrachalam, Navabharat Ferro Alloys, KTPS, NMDC, etc.

The proposed Rs 12.5-crore IT Tower coming up in the heart of the city will have 25,000 square feet of plug and play area.

The government has already released Rs 12.5 crore for the construction of G+4 building in 1.25 acres adjacent to Two Town police station. To start with the IT Tower will accommodate at least 15 companies. The government will allocate Rs 12.5 crore for another tower after the completion of the first tower, it’s learnt.

Seven software companies - Technogen Inc (Virginia), Hallamark Global/Nimble (New Jersey), Shubh Solutions (California), Prowess Software Services (Hyderabad/USA), Rubikforce Inc (Pennsylvania) and Tanla Soluations (Hyderabad) – are ready to open their offices in the upcoming IT Tower, according to Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, who was instrumental in lobbying the companies to set up their offices.

Speaking to The Hans India, Ajay said: “It’s all because of KTR. The first phase of the IT hub coming with an outlay of Rs 12.5 crore is expected to provide employment to at least 2,500. It’s going to be a huge advantage for the local grads, especially those coming from rural backdrop, as they learn and gain experience before plunging themselves into the highly competitive pool of IT professionals.”

Technogen Inc Chief Executive Officer Lax Chepuri said that spread of IT industry to small cities is of immense help to the youth coming from semi-urban and rural areas to show their mettle. Starting the project within seven months of its proposal is really great.
