Hyderabad: In the wake of land scams unearthed recently in Telangana, the State government has taken up a major exercise to identify the government lands which were gobbled by private persons through illegal registrations.

Revenue and Registration Department have been asked to conduct verifications of all the land registrations done by 141 Sub Registrar offices since 2014 and submit a report on the status of lands which belong to the Endowment, Wakf and Revenue Departments and also the Jagir lands in the State.

Stamps and Registration DIG V Srinivas told The Hans India that all the sub registrars have been asked to send details of the total number of property registrations, including the registration of government lands that had taken place in their jurisdiction.

There were two types of land registrations being done in the Registrars offices. One is registration as Immovable property under Land transfer Book No 1 and another is registration under moveable property under Book 4. The properties registered under book number 4 would not permit the transfer of ownership rights.

In some cases, people registered Jagir lands in their names and also approached the courts to get ownership rights.

In the Miyapur land scam case, private individuals registered the government land under book number 4 giving only litigation rights to the persons.

In the case of Hafizpet land scam, TRS leader K Keshava Rao’s family members bought the lands in the government survey numbers under book one which gives them ownership rights of 50 acres of land.

The officials said the Registration Department is collecting all the details of the illegal registration of government lands under book one and book two.

The data would be furnished to the Revenue Department which will verify the status of government lands and check for any tampering of the revenue records during the process of registration.

The officials of the Revenue and Registration Departments would also visit the lands which have been occupied illegally.

Based on the report, government would take further action against the officials who colluded with the individuals and also take necessary measures to protect the government lands through legal battle, the source added.
