Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) decided to conduct a feasibility study in order to construct an underpass from Uppal Junction to Rasoolpura junction under Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP). The civic body officials claim that the width of the underpass will be 40 metres and the length will be decided after conducting a comprehensive survey.

According GHMC official, under SRDP package III, the civic body had decided to construct grade separators and elevated corridors from Uppal to Rasoolpura junction at an estimated cost of Rs 160.7 crore. Due to land acquisition and other technical problems the civic body had decided to halt the project and check for other alternatives. This was discussed in a high level meeting chaired by Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K Taraka Rama Rao.

When queried about the same, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that land acquisition near Survey of India and a graveyard at Uppal junction had become major hindrance for the project. He also said the civic body has to acquire about 200 prime properties in the Uppal-Rasoolpura stretch. He said in order to minimise property and land acquisition, the civic body will now conduct a feasible study to construct an underpass on the stretch.

The official further said the width of the underpass will be about 40 metres and length will be only decided after conducting a comprehensive study. He said the SRDP had been running at brisk pace in the remaining areas. However, he said the skyway at Owaisi Junction was likely to get cancelled due to various reasons.

Meanwhile, the civic body will complete SRDP phase I in five packages. Package I includes multi-level flyovers and grade separators at six junctions, KBR Park entrance, Maharaja Agrasen Jn (Road No.12), Film Nagar, Road No.45 Junction, Jubilee Hills Check-Post Junction and Cancer Hospital Junction (Road No.10 Junction) at a cost of around Rs 322.92 crore.

Package II includes LB Nagar Junction, Bairamalguda Junction, Kamineni Hospital Junction on Inner Ring Road and Chintalkunta Check-post Junction at a cost of Rs 331.38 crore. Package IV includes the construction of multi-level Biodiversity Park Junction, Ayyappa Society Junction, Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction and Mind Space (Rs 196.13 crore). Package V includes the construction and improvement of grade separators or flyovers at Owaisi Hospital and Bahadurpura (Rs 86.21 crore).
