Khammam: The AITUC State secretary Potu Prasad demanded that the government revive the dependent employment in Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). Speaking at the union meeting here on Saturday, he criticised the State government for using police force to scuttle the ongoing strike of the Singareni employees.

“It has been three years since the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) came to power, however, the ruling party failed to fulfil its poll promises, i.e., revival of dependent employment besides shelving appointments on contract basis,” Prasad said. This apart, the government also failed to regularise the contract workers associated with gram panchayats and municipalities, he added.

Referring to the 28 per cent Goods and Service Tax (GST) on granite industry, he said it would have adverse effects on the industry which is already in doldrums for the last few years.“The livelihood of large number of employees, especially of the unorganised sector, is at stake, hence the Union government needs to look at its decision of bringing granite industry under the higher slab GST rate structure,” Prasad said.

He also demanded that the government establish an ESI hospital in Khammam for the benefit of huge workforce of the region.AITUC district general secretary Singu Narsimha Rao, Mekala Srinivasa Rao, Ch Sitamahalaxmi, Gade Laxminarayana, Sambasiva Reddy, Manda Venkateswarlu, N Ramakrishna, P Mohan Rao and Ch Bhaskar were among others present.
