TSRTC management is now offering the 22-seater air-conditioned buses for hire to tourists and for wedding parties on hourly basis

Hyderabad: With the Vajra minibus services proving a damp squib, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has now decided to offer these buses on hire to tourists on hourly basis.

The TSRTC had introduced the 22-seater ‘Vajra air-conditioned minibuses’ on the dedicated routes between Hyderabad and Nizamabad and Hyderabad and Warangal. These buses were planned to take the passengers from colonies in Hyderabad to Warangal or Nizamabad as the case may be. The TSRTC officials planned to ensure that passengers were picked up from their doorstep. These buses were launched on May 5 after many repeated postponements.

The minibuses, however, proved a disappointment. The occupancy ratio in these buses was less than 60 per cent. The introduction of online booking system, without providing sale of tickets through counters at bus stations, cramped the success of the services, according to sources.

About 60 trips are being operated between Warangal and Hyderabad daily at a frequency of one service for every 20
minutes. A few days after the launch of the services sale of tickets through counters was introduced at Kazipet in Warangal and at Uppal in Hyderabad.

This helped the occupancy ratio to register only a marginal increase. The officials have now decided to provide these buses on hire. The buses would now be given on hire for various occasions, such as marriage, excursion and tourism and also to the corporate companies, said Greater Hyderabad Zone Executive Director A Purushottam Naik.

The officials said that these buses would cater to the needs of the joint families, who like to go on pilgrimage. The official said that charges for eight hours would be Rs 6,800 (for 200 km). Similarly for the 12-hour journey it would cost Rs 9,500 and for 24 hour journey it would cost Rs 14,600 (for 480 km).
