Rotary Club of Vijayawada, Mid Town awarded and felicitated former Indian Cricketer and Padmasri award winner Dr VVS Laxman with a Vocational Excellency Award at a private hotel in Vijayawada on Sunday. Former minister and TRS legislator P Babu Mohan presented the award and felicitated the batsman.

In this connection VVS Laxman released privilege cards. Later, he gave an autograph on a cricket bat. He saw a slight flash back in a small documentary prepared by Rotary club of Vijayawada and expressed his joy over it.

Speaking on the occasion, former Indian cricketer and now commentator Laxman said that with the support and encouragement from his parents he had chosen cricket as profession. His 17th year was a turning point in his life when he was selected for the Indian team, he said. Every parent should encourage their children and give them a free hand to take decisions of their own, he suggested.

“My parents gave me five years to choose a career and so I took up MBBS. By the end of the course I was selected for the Indian cricket team,” he recollected. Laxman praised the service of Rotary club to the poor.

Actor turned politician Babu Mohan said that social service is most rendered service. Rotary club was organising several competitions like academic, sports and games, he said. He remembered his school days and said that he was topper in sports and games. He further added that he likes Sachin Tendulkar and saw every cricket match in spite of his busy life. Rotary Club district governor Dr SVS Rao and others participated.
