Hyderabad: Roads are turning from bad to worse with rains battering the city at regular intervals. The stretches in Gunrock, Sikh Village, Hasmathpet and Old Bowenpally, which are riddled with potholes, are posing threat to road-users.

Besides this, lives of pedestrians are put in danger with manholes left uncovered, promoting citizens to look before they leap, lest they fall in an open manhole.

Mishaps go unreported every day. With heavy rush on these roads, city planners have little time and inclination to carry out repairs. Citizens have no choice but to put up with the bumpy rides whichever transport mode they use.

“Many accidents happened due to these bad roads. I was witness to pedestrians and two-wheeler riders falling into open drain particularly during nights during the recent rains,” said shop-keeper K Radha.

Sharing his woes, a pedestrian Prabhakar said that the civic authorities have taken up some repairs before monsoon but the rains washed off everything and the roads have gone from bad to worse.

Echoing her concern, a motorist Ankita said, “I am tired of driving on this bad road every day. Due to rain we are not able to see the potholes and it is a serious threat to our lives. My vehicle is incurring high maintenance due to bad roads.”

A civic official said that repair works were taken up before monsoon. But rains washed away all their efforts to provide good roads. However, repair works would be taken up once again, he said. But residents see no hope for many such promises were never kept.
