Bhongir: Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh has expressed concern over the plight of farmers compared to other sections of society. He is critical of the political parties reneging on their promise after coming to power.

He was participating as the chief guest in the round-table conference held on farmers’ suicides and weavers’ problems even three years after formation of Telangana State. The round-table conference was held here recently under the aegis of the VAAiCE Foundation.

The RBI Governor had written off industrial loans worth Rs 200,000 crore, but criticised the waiver of farm loans. One of the Union Ministers made sarcastic remarks on the demand for loan waiver to farmers showed how the farmers were discriminated against by the Centre.

He said that the BJP had gained power in Uttar Pradesh by promising loan waiver for farmers. He recalled that the UPA-II government had waived loans to the tune of Rs 72,00,000 crore for the benefit of the
farmers.

He criticised the Centre for failing to ensure minimum support price (MSP) to the paddy. It was unfortunate that the farmers’ suicides were continuing even three years after the formation of Telangana State. Ajit Singh took the State government to task for failing to fulfil its promises.

The weavers continued to lead of life of misery. Former MLC Kapilavai Dileep Kumar said even after realising the dream of Telangana Statehood, not even one per cent of the objective of forming the new State was realised. The fruits of the Telangana movement were being enjoyed by a single family.

KCR, who did not fulfil even a single poll promise was stifling the voices of dissent, he said. Professor Gali Vinod Kumar said it was shameful on the part of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for imposing restrictions in the Osmania University though the students played a pivotal role in achieving Telangana Statehood.
