Hyderabad: As energy saving effort under Ujala scheme, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in coordination with the Energy Efficiency Services Limited distributed as many as 50,000 LED bulbs, tube lights and fans at a subsided rate with the help of Self Help Groups women (SHGs).

The GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy on Wednesday congratulated the officials of Urban Community Development (UCD), Electrical wing and officials of ESSL group for the successful implementation of the Ujala scheme in East Zone.

During the detailed review meeting, GHMC Commissioner, said that as a pilot project this innovative scheme has been taken up in East zone where about 50,000 LED bulbs provided to the households in a span of five days. This is the first innovative scheme taken up in Hyderabad by deriving good results.

He further said that this scheme is likely to be taken up in all the 30 circles deploying 100 Community Resource Persons coordinating with SHGs women and the can Rs 25,000 per week basing on their efforts.

The GHMC is deploying one community development officer, assistant engineer (electrical) and a senior official to coordinate with 100 Community Resource Persons and will help the SHGs to reach the target of one crore LED bulbs to the citizens, said Janardhan Reddy.
