Nizamabad: Close on the heels of unveiling drug racket in Hyderabad, the Excise sleuths on Wednesday, in a raid, seized 8,760 chocolates laced with ganja, which is sold under the garb of Ayurvedic drugs and took into custody one person.

The chocolates, titled Madhu Munakka, are reportedly manufactured in Rajasthan. The manufacturers also branded the product as ISO certified.

The narcotic-laced chocolate was sold from the first floor shop of famous Sarda saree centre in front of the Lalita Mahal theatre in the town. The chocolate was priced at Rs 5 each. Upon consumption, it is said, it gives the kick for five hours. The business was carried out by Sarda brothers, one of whom was taken into custody.

The brothers were popular as singers of devotional songs. People were shocked to know that the brothers were behind the narcotic racket.

The duo clandestinely operated the business so far, but the cat was out of bag as some of the consumers provided a tip off to the Excise police.

The Excise police bought one chocolate and got it tested in laboratory. They found that it contained ganja. They took the seller into custody.

The daily casual workers in the theatre area are targeted by the racket. Many students got addicted to this narcotic chocolate.

Excise Deputy Commissioner Raj Kumar said the narcotics are being made in Rajasthan. The Excise police identified that the unscrupulous persons are selling the chocolates here procuring them from Jaipur.
