Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police Station on Sunday utilised the opportunity presented by the Bonalu festival and assemblage of a large number of people to raise awareness of the online frauds and how one should ward fraudsters off. Of late cases of some gangs, particularly those from Jharkhand, have been resorting to online fraud by obtaining 'One Time Password’ (OTP) of debit and credit card details.

Speaking to The Hans India, Cyber Crime ACP Raghu Vir said the police had already distributed more than 2.5 lakh pamphlets in different parts of the city during Friday prayers. The pamphlets explained the deceitful means to defraud the gullible.
The personnel from Cyber Crime police station had also reached out to the schools and colleges and also banks during the last few months.

Now, the police held an awareness camp during the festivities, so that they can raise awareness among a large number of people. “Starting from Sunday, on the occasion of Bonalu we started distributing the material with the intention of bringing awareness amongst masses. As part of the campaign about 10,000 stickers are being pasted.

Also, we will be releasing a movie next week raise awareness. Film director Rajamouli will also appear in the film.,” said the official. According to police records, as many as 23 cases of fraud were registered this up to May-end this year and 12 persons were arrested by the Cyber police. Most of the arrested hailed from Jamtara village in Jharkhand State.
