Hyderabad: Condemning the functioning of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government, the Congress leaders alleged that the State government utterly failed in its promises made during last year’s Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections to make the State capital ‘traffic snarl and water log free’. Heavy rains lashed city on Monday and Tuesday leading to water logging and traffic snarls in several parts of Hyderabad.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition in the Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, along with Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader T Jeevan Reddy and former chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, challenged Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao for a public debate on the horrifying situation of the State capital and other towns in Telangana as they were battered by the Southwest Monsoon rains.

Shabbir asked what happened to his 100-day action plan and said he was ready for a debate even in the presence of media, at anytime and anywhere the TRS and Rama Rao wanted.Describing Rama Rao as ‘Feku Rao’ and ‘Gali Rao’ Shabbir said the former had no moral right to talk about the Congress or its vice president Rahul Gandhi. “He says the Congress will be pushed to underground and Rahul Gandhi is just a ‘bacha’ in politics,” he lamented.

He said students who had to appear for the TT exams on Tuesday had a harrowing time due to traffic snarls caused by water logged roads.

“The TRS government had failed to implement all the 21 major promises made during the last GHMC elections,” said Shabbir. “If the TRS government cannot handle the situation, let them give up power and the Congress knows how to manage the situation,” he added.

Advising the TRS leaders and Rama Rao to stop blaming the Congress for their failures, he urged them to attend to peoples’ problems seriously, at least during the Monsoon session of the Assembly and ensure that schoolchildren, youth and working women were not hard-pressed and were protected from traffic snarls, water logged pot holes, open manhole tragedies and others.
