Hyderabad: The Telangana State government on Saturday exempted four more irrigation projects from the application of the provisions of chapter 2 and 3 under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Act, 2016.

The State government exempted four more irrigation projects from the application of certain chapters. Now, there is no need
for these projects to conduct public hearing for land acquisition

Chapter 2 deals with preliminary investigation for determination of social impact and public purpose. The chapter 3 provides special provision to safe guard food security to the displaced persons whose lands are acquired at the project sites. Government has already exempted Dindi Project, Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project, Palamuru-Ranga Reddy Lift Irrigation scheme, Pranahita Project and Kaleshwaram Project from the same provisions recently.

Government has issued orders exempting Rollavagu tank, Sadarmatt barrage, Jawahar –Nettempadu Lift Irrigation scheme and Indiramma Flood Flow Canal from SRSP from the application of the two chapters in the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.

State Irrigation Department officials said that the orders were issued to prevent the delay in the land acquisition which caused the escalation of the project cost. With the exemption of the two chapters, officials said, land acquisition process would be completed without any hassles as there is no need of conducting public hearing and conduct of social impact study.
