Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday called upon the Opposition parties and social activists not to rake up a controversy over the government’s proposal to construct a Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and Council buildings and a cultural centre - Telangana Kalabharati – on Bison Polo Ground spread in sprawling 60 acres of land in Secunderabad.

Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday called upon the Opposition parties and social activists not to rake up a controversy over the government’s proposal to construct a Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and Council buildings and a cultural centre - Telangana Kalabharati – on Bison Polo Ground spread in sprawling 60 acres of land in Secunderabad.
Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister said the Union government responded positively to the government’s proposal and in principle agreed to handover the ground which belonged to the Defence Ministry.
Out of 60 acres, 14 acres has been given to Hyderabad Cricket Association and nine acres to another agency for sports training. The remaining land in the Bison Ground has been vacant. The proposed Assembly building would reflect the unique architecture adopted by Nizam dynasty.
The government also requested the Centre to hand over defence lands on some stretches around Greater Hyderabad to develop road network in view of increasing traffic from the districts to the State capital. The Chief Minister clarified that government is not taking gymkhana lands.
In Greater Hyderabad limits, about 500 acres of land had been allotted for the establishment of sport stadiums but they were not being used properly. Even stadiums like Gachibowli were not being used for sports. Instead, it was being used for wedding ceremonies, he said.
