Hyderabad: A major scam came to light in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation with 15 Swachh auto trolleys gone missing for last six months. The irony is that the clueless civic body has been paying month instalments (EMIs) promptly for the missing autos.

According to highly-placed sources in the civic body, Swachh auto trolleys with registration numbers TS09UA6829, TS10MTR1039, TS10TR03595, TS11UB0959, TS08UD1677, TS12UA8204, TS07UB7510, TS09UB0692, TS10TR1145, TS10TR2160, TS07UC3367, TS10MTR1024, TS10MTR1883 and TS10TR7107 have been missing for last six months. The fifteenth auto, which is in the missing list, details are not available.

The autos belong to transfer stations, including Yusufguda, Ambetpet STP, HMT pipeline road, Imlibun, Kaitlapur, Nallagandla, RC Puram and Tank Bund. However, according to GHMC records, last month 1,617 Swachh auto trolleys segregated 88.81 per cent of garbage with 1,885 trips. The corporation has collected 1119.21 metric tonnes of garbage during July.

A senior sanitation wing official on request of anonymity told The Hans India that some Swachh auto tippers have gone missing despite a “close watch”.

The missing autos are reportedly are being used for other commercial activities, he said.The GHMC even paying Rs 7,000 towards EMIs to the auto tippers on regular basis. He opined that either ground level officials or circle levels officials have sending them the wrong reports.

He said that in order to curb the irregularities the corporation is now contemplating to track the auto tippers through GPS system.

The GHMC official also said that auto missing or not reporting problem has began ever since the decentralisation of transport wing. He said alleged that several lower rung officials have been hand in glove with the local political leaders have been using the autos for personal purposes.

He said that corporation would conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and initiate legal action and seize the auto drivers and officials if found guilty.

The GHMC has distributed 2,000 Swachh autos to carry dry and wet garbage. Each auto tipper driver was asked to collect Rs 50 from 800 households allotted to him.
