Hyderabad: A sudden drop in the drinking water supply pressure for the past few days has started raising concern among the citizens over the scarcity of water in several areas of the city. Despite repeated complaints, some areas have not been receiving drinking water for over a week.

A senior official from Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage board (HMWS&SB) has said that adequate quantity of water is supplied from the main branch. Non-supply of water in some areas may be due to local problems, he said.

People of Kukatpally, Jeedimetla, Sainikpuri, Chilkalguda, Yousufguda, Tarnaka and Uppal are getting only a hairline stream of water supply; whereas areas like Chilkanagar and Neredmet have not been receiving water at all.

Vishal Srivastav (32), a local resident of Chilkanagar says that for the past one week they are not getting water supply.

His repeated complaints have not been addressed. “The whole colony hasn’t been receiving any water for the past week,” he said.

Residents of Neredmet had similar complaints. Nitin Lawrence (28) from the locality said while low pressure existed earlier, they have not been receiving water for the past 3 days.

A senior official from HMWS&SB refuted the complaints. He said that adequate amount of water is being supplied to the city and claimed it to be an issue in the local supply system.

He further added that the complaints from Metro Customer Care (MCC) of the Water Board may sometimes be delayed before reaching to the officials concerned, he added.
