Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has hiked the prices of water tankers which will come into effect from September 1. The prices were hiked after several requests from the water tanker owners’ associations, who argued that the domestic rates were not revised since 2011.

As the current pricesdo not reflect the inflation in the constituent components such as fuel/lubes, driver/servicing personnel salaries, repairs and maintenance apart from the steep hike in the ubiquitous statutory requisites such as insurance, RTA fitness, taxes, etc. the water board, after due deliberation, conceded favourably and revised the tanker rates.

In this view, tankers with domestic trips of 5 kilo litres (KL) and 10 kilo litres (KL) with existing rates of Rs 400 and Rs 800 have gone up to Rs 600 and Rs 1,150 respectively. Further, prices of the commercial tankers with capacity 5 KL, 10 KL and 20 KL have risen from Rs 700, Rs 1400 and Rs 2,800 to Rs 900, Rs 1750 and Rs 3,500 respectively.

The water board further claimed that the revised rates shall not affect the common man as the water supplied through the tankers is only of miniscule percentage of the total supplies which have been improved after the Krishna and Godavari augmentation phases.
