New Delhi: An all-party delegation including the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) along with Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) members, who have been protesting at Jantar Mantar for the past two days against the highhandedness of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government and its anti-people policies, here on Wednesday met President Ram Nath Kovind and urged his intervention.

The delegation led by CPI MP D Raja, along with Opposition party leaders Uttam Kumar Reddy, Chada Venkat Reddy, L Ramana and JAC chairman Kondandaram and MLA Sampath and others explained to the President that attacks by sand mafia and the police administration conniving against Dalits were on the rise in the State.

The State government’s decision to remove the Dharna Chowk from the heart of the city was only to stifle democratic dissent as Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had become highly intolerant, they said.

Highlighting Nerella incident, they said justice had been eluding Dalit families in the village despite large scale protests by peoples’ organisations in the State and added that action against the killers had not been taken due to their political connections.

The delegation appealed to the President to direct the Union Home Ministry to initiate action against the violators of Nerella. The delegation told him that the Chief Minister’s family was involved in illegal sand mining and was not only damaging the ecology but also depriving the exchequer of its income. Siricilla Assembly constituency represented by K T Rama Rao was a hub of such illegal activity, they said.
