Hyderabad: The Commissioner for Civil Supplies C V Anand warned sugar traders against hiking the price by creating scarcity by hoarding of sugar illegally and involving in speculative activities.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the Commissioner said licensed dealers and traders should not sell sugar at more than the price decided by the Central government or the State government.

Raids will be conducted to check if any trader is doing business without license. A person engaged in the business of purchase and storage for sale of sugar in quantities of five quintals is considered a sugar dealer. Wholesaler should get license from the concerned District Civil Supplies Officer or Tahasildar and if he fails to have license, action will be taken under Civil Supplies Act.

The Centre extended a notification which imposed restrictions on stocking and turnover on dealers of sugar till October 28, 2017. It also authorised the State governments and Union Territory administrations to enforce this order.

The Commissioner conducted a meeting with Wholesale Sugar Dealers’ Association representatives to discuss the regulations issued by the Central government on sugar prices.

Sugar dealers requested the Commissioner to initiate action against the dealers who are selling sugar without having license. They said they would provide the details of those illegal dealers, the release added.
