Keeping up with its tradition of highlighting the immense contribution of lyricists, playback singers, music directors and film directors in the evolution of a film song, city-based Dakshin Dhwani group conducted its third ‘Nostalgic Nite’ event at Lamakaan during the festive weekend.

Picking up 10 cine celebrities ranging from the titanic music director Khemchand Prakash, who gave singer Kishore Kumar his first break in Hindi cinema with ‘Ziddi’ in 1948 to many like film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee and lyricist Shakeel Badayuni, the members of the group kept the show going even as torrential rains lashed the venue.

Performing before a select band of keen listeners, the performers kept up a peppy show for over two hours, belting out evergreen numbers from films released mainly during the 1950’s and 60’s. A medley comprising rare archival footage of the life and times of these notables was also screened for the audience, who appreciated it heartily.
