New Delhi: The Central leadership of the BJP is veering around to the opinion that ‘Plan A’ - that of taking on the TRS in direct elections - may not yield the expected results in the next general elections. Sources admit that there was no way the party could take on the ruling party in Telangana single-handed and there is little chance of at least coming second at the hustings.

The BJP is also now coming to a conclusion that there is little chance of the TRS cosying up to the BJP before the next elections. "It does not work for the TRS in any way. There is little chance of the TRS getting to be our ally. The ruling party would never like to lose its advantage over others by losing the minorities’ support. Congress is still stronger in the state and it would never concede the minority vote to it by aligning with us," sources close to the party leadership said.

The reason for the same is that the ground realities prove that at least 35 constituencies in the state have significant Muslim population. "The percentage of their population is anything above 30 per cent. Hence, like Mamata Banerjee, KCR would not like to lose their support. This is the vote bank. However, much we may try to woo the majority community, it would not be helpful as it is never a monolith block like the minority community. Hence, we need to look at our Plan B," the sources added.

This effectively means that the Central leadership is exploring ways to resort to unconventional methods to weaken the TRS. The BJP has already gathered evidence of their weakness and would like to look into it more minutely.

“There seems to be an opening here for us....and a good one. We are sure this could work. After all, it has worked in other states. We have subtly altered the ground realities there. There is always someone who would like to play safe. There is always someone who could experiment with enough assurances.

We shall look into it soon. There is still time for such developments to be engineered,” the sources said. BJP national president Amit Shah is all set to visit Telangana soon. This time he is not only expected to review the work of his party, but also explore other windows of opportunity. The party’s central leadership is also scrutinising some petitions filed in courts against the TRS government to identify "potential material" that could come in handy.

In political systems based on the principle of separation of powers, authority is distributed among several branches - Executive, Legislative and Judicial as everyone knows. The judiciary is independent in our country, but there is no point if some party wants to live in denial.
